LTE IoT NB-IoT Deployment methods
As we all know, there are three deployment methods for NB-IoT: Standalone, Guard band and In-band.
Stand-alone deployment is suitable for replowing the GSM band, which has a channel bandwidth of 200KHz, which is just enough space for NB-IoT 180KHz bandwidth with a 10KHz protection interval on both sides.
Protected-band deployment utilizes the unused resource block of 180KHz bandwidth in the LTE edge protection band. In-band deployment utilizes any resource block in the middle of the LTE carrier.
Like LTE, when the NB-IoT terminal is powered on and searches for a carrier (cell), the search and detection process of PSS/SSS is repeated in the possible frequency range until the corresponding carrier (NB-IoT anchored carrier) is searched for, with a frequency scan raster (raster) size of 100kHz.
The so-called raster is also the smallest unit used to adjust the LTE carrier frequency position, which means that the interval between each frequency point should be an integer multiple of 100KHz, equivalent to a highway divided into several lanes, and the centre distance between two lanes is an integer multiple of 100KHz.
The cell phone terminal in the frequency scan is by 100KHz integer times to scan.
This 100KHz frequency scan raster means that the NB-IoT anchor carrier must be located in a defined PRB during in-band deployment.
For example, for LTE with 10MHz bandwidth, the NB-IoT cannot occupy the PRB where the synchronization and broadcast channels are located, but also has to meet the 100kHz raster requirement, so its in-band NB-IoT can only be located in PRBs 4, 9, 14, 19, 30, 35, 40, 45.
