Sector Antenna

Sector Antenna Manufacturer

C&T RF Antennas Inc is the outdoor sector antenna manufacturer directional sector antenna supplier in China.

What is a sector antenna?

A sector antenna is a directional microwave antenna with a sector-shaped radiation pattern. Typical designs are 60°, 90°, and 120°, often with a few extra degrees.

The largest use of these sector antennas is as antennas for cellular base station sites. They are also used for other types of mobile communications, for example in WiFi networks. They are used for limited distances of about 4 to 5 km.

What is the structure of a sector antenna?

A typical sector antenna is at the bottom and has RF connectors for coaxial cables (feeders) and an adjustment mechanism. For its outdoor arrangement, the main reflector screen is made of aluminum and all internal components are housed in a fiberglass radome housing to keep its operation stable regardless of weather conditions.

How is the sector antenna grounded?

Grounding is very important for outdoor antennas, so all metal parts are DC grounded.

The shape of the sector antenna

The long narrow shape of the antenna makes it form a fan-shaped radiation pattern, wide in the horizontal direction and relatively narrow in the vertical direction.

Vertical beamwidth of the sector antenna

The vertical beamwidth of a sector antenna is no greater than 15°, 7.5° in each direction. In contrast to antennas used for commercial broadcasting (e.g. AM, FM, and TV), which must be realized to be listenable at a certain distance, there is usually a downward beam tilt or downward inclination that allows the base station to cover its immediate area more effectively and not cause RF interference to distant areas.

The downward tilt angle of the sector antenna

The coverage area determined by the projection of the radiation pattern on the ground can be adjusted by changing the downward tilt of the pattern. In some models, this is done mechanically by manually adjusting the tilt of the antenna with an adjustable mounting bracket.

In closer sector antennas, the pattern can be electronically tilted by means of adjustable phase shifters in the feeds of the individual dipole elements. These are adjusted from the ground via a remote control circuit, eliminating the need for technicians to climb the antenna tower.

Classification of sector antenna

It has two forms metal plate type and metal wire type. This antenna widens the antenna band because it increases the antenna’s cross-sectional area. Wire type sector antenna can be used with three, four, or five metal wires.

The development of the sector antenna

1. Low radar cross-section of ultra-wideband sector antenna

This is a new type of ultra-wideband sector antenna that can be used for low visible platforms. The sector antenna uses a rectangular strip and is symmetrically distributed in the rectangular strip of 8 circular arc strips composed of a fan-shaped structure design antenna radiation unit;

The radiating floor is designed by using a rectangle with 90-degree rounded corners on both sides, and the radiating unit and the radiating floor are printed on both sides of the FR-4 dielectric material plate (dielectric constant of 4.4).

The radiation and scattering characteristics of the antenna are investigated and compared with the reference antenna, and it is found that the antenna has a good radar cross-section reduction effect under the requirement of relevant indexes of the ultra-wideband antenna.

This sector antenna is suitable for applications where the ultra-wideband antenna has a low radar cross-section requirement.

2. High gain lens loaded sector beam antenna

With the rapid development of electronic science and technology, sector beam antennas have wide applications in medical imaging, mobile communication base stations, indoor local wireless networks, and other aspects.

At the same time, the market prospect of sector beam millimeter wave antennas for vehicle and airborne collision avoidance, as one of the core components of a safety control systems for automobiles and small aircraft, is getting more and more promising.
