What are the applications of NFC in access control systems?
In the case of access control, the access card can be digitized (into a digital certificate) and easily and securely sent to the designated user’s cell phone or another mobile device, and then through the mobile network and the cloud to manage the life cycle of this digital certificate.
For example, today there is a temporary staff who needs to enter and exit the building, the management unit can send “temporary “access control credentials to these staff when the set time is up, access control credentials will be invalid, and security will be no doubt.
And with the popularity of NFC, digital door cards/credentials can be preloaded or downloaded to the phone, or just an NFC tag attached to the phone or wallet, when the user opens the door with NFC phones, they can simply touch the door access with the phone, just like a traditional door card.
Many European hotels have also adopted NFC door locks, the hotel will send the NFC key to the guest’s cell phone before check-in, and the guest will be able to open the door directly to the designated room on the day of booking with their cell phone, no need to go to the counter check-in.
We can even foresee that in the near future, NFC will make access control disappear on the door, the user only needs to touch the door through the phone on the NFC label, and the system will be the door location (or ID) and user credentials and visitor location for the combination, used as a request to the access control system to open the door.
In addition, the administrator of the access control system, also through the NFC cell phone, at any time to replace different functions of the door card, in different crisis situations, send different levels of instructions to the access control system, to lock the access control of an area or release the regional access control to divert the flow of people.
