What is the 5G NR access network?
In the 5G network, the access network is no longer composed of these things in BBU, RRU, and antenna. Instead, it is refactored to the following three functional entities:
Cu (Centralized Unit, concentration unit).
DU (Distribute Unit, distributed unit)
AAU (ACTIVE Antenna Unit, Active Antenna Unit)
Cu: The non-real-time part of the original BBU will be divided, redefined as CU, responsible for processing non-real-time protocols and services.
AAU: Part of the physical layer processing function of BBU combines the original RRU and passive antennas to AAU.
DU: The remainder of BBU is redefined as DU, which is responsible for processing physical layer protocols and real-time services.
