What is Quasi Yagi-Uda Antenna?
At present, Yagi-Uda Antenna is a conventional antenna, which has good directionality and high gain than a dipole antenna and can be applied to direction finding, long-distance communication, and other fields.
However, because the conventional Yagi-Uda antenna is a three-dimensional antenna, it is bulky and more difficult to integrate with microwave circuits.
In 1998, a research group led by Prof. Itoh of UCLA ingeniously referred the Yagi antenna technology to the printed circuit board (PCB) and used the printed oscillator and ground plate to realize the function of the pilot, feed oscillator element, and reflector, reducing the size of the traditional Yagi antenna.
At the same time, a 1/4 wavelength converter, balanced balun, differential mode feed, and other techniques are used in the antenna structure to solve the narrow band problem in the traditional Yagi antenna, which has become an international research hotspot and named this antenna Quasi Yagi-Uda Antenna.
Subsequent work is mainly focused on further widening the bandwidth to achieve broadband, multi-band, and for quasi-Yagi-Uda antenna arrays, and has achieved good results.
