What is the relationship between 5G Narrowband IoT?

5G technology brings more than just faster internet speeds, but makes possible the intelligent interconnection of everything. Narrowband IoT is the prelude and foundation of 5G commercial use. Therefore, the evolution of Narrowband IoT is more important, such as support for multicast and continuous Mobility, new power levels, etc., As long as the infrastructure such as Narrowband IoT is complete, 5G can be truly realized.

5G Narrowband IoT relationship

In communications, 5G, the fifth-generation mobile phone mobile communication standard, is also called the fifth-generation search mobile communication technology. Narrowband IoT, the cellular-based Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) has become an important branch of the Internet of Everything. Many people do not understand the relationship between 5G Narrowband IoT. Today we will take a look at what are the differences between the 5G Narrowband IoT.

5G technology will not only bring faster network speeds, but also make possible the intelligent interconnection of all things, and NB-IoT is the prelude and foundation of 5G commercial use.

The evolution of Narrowband IoT is more important, such as support for multicast, continuous mobility, new power levels, and so on. As long as the infrastructure such as Narrowband IoT is complete, 5G can be truly realized.

NB-IoT technology brings vitality to innovative applications in the field of the Internet of Things and brings innovative breakthroughs in many fields such as remote meter reading, security alarms, smart manhole covers, smart street lamps, and so on.

Three standards in the 5G era

There are three standards for 5G, namely LTE (licensed channel), LTE-U (unlicensed channel), and Narrowband IoT (licensed channel). Narrowband IoT is still an authorized channel.

The biggest feature of Narrowband IoT is that the transmission distance reaches an astonishing 10km, which can cover a small county. And it can bring countless terminals, and a base station can bring more than 200,000 terminals.

This means that managing a manhole cover and parking fees has become easy and cheap. Even if it is 2 million yuan to build a base station, it can be managed in a radius of 10km.

Narrowband IoT technology brings vitality to innovative applications in the field of the Internet of Things and brings innovative breakthroughs in many fields such as remote meter reading, security alarms, smart manhole covers, smart street lights, and so on.

The evolution of Narrowband IoT appears to be very important, such as support for multicast, continuous mobility, new power levels, etc. As long as the infrastructure such as NB-IoT is complete, 5G can be truly realized.

Before 2020, there is no hope for the large-scale application of 5G, and no equipment manufacturer will think that 5G can be deployed quickly. Even with the rapid progress of related standards, the standard freeze period from June to September has just started. The next step is to establish base stations and compatibility mechanisms (the future Huawei and ZTE must be compatible with each other), and there is still a long time.

Five applications of Narrowband IoT technology

Scenario applications brought by the Narrowband IoT network include smart parking, smart fire protection, smart water services, smart street lights, shared bicycles, and smart home appliances.

Narrowband IoT smart meter reading

Originally, the meter was read once a month. Now it can be read once every half an hour. This not only saves a lot of manpower and material resources, but the big data generated by 48-meter readings a day also solves the problem of pipeline leakage that cannot be detected in time.

The smart parking solution uses Narrowband IoT technology, and there is a geomagnetic sensor under the parking space, which can collect parking space information in real-time. It has the following advantages:

  1. The vehicle detector can be directly reported to the operator’s wireless network without a gateway, and the overall cost (equipment cost, deployment cost, and maintenance cost) is reduced;
  2. The deployment is convenient, and the vehicle detector is plug-and-play. The roadside parking system includes a geomagnetic module (built-in Narrowband IoT module). The geomagnetic parking space detector is used to collect the parking space occupancy status. The parking management platform is based on the parking time and meter. Fee rules automatically generate billing data.

Smart street lights adopt Narrowband IoT technology

The traditional high-pressure sodium lamps are transformed into LED street lights, and the power consumption can be reduced by 50%-70%. During the transformation process, the Narrowband IoT module can be connected to achieve more precise single-lamp control. Time control brightness and the second is to increase the lighting rate.

Shared bicycles use NB-IoT technology

OfO, together with China Telecom and Huawei, released the Narrowband IoT smart lock.

Compared with the 2G car lock, the Narrowband IoT smart lock greatly shortens the settlement delay from the previous 25 seconds to the current 5 seconds, which greatly improves the user experience.

In terms of power consumption, in the past, the battery in shared bicycles could only last for up to 3 months, which required regular replacement of the battery or the installation of power generation devices in the bicycle, which affected the use of users. The new small yellow car can continue to work without charging for more than 2 years, it has not only saved costs but also reduced the burden of operation and maintenance.

The networking rate of smart home appliances is very low, because the WIFI connection is not strong, and the gateway must be configured. In the first year, only 40% of the devices were connected to the Internet, and this dropped to 10% in the second year.

The Narrowband IoT chip is built into the smart home device, with no routing configuration, no gateway, and is always online.

Using software on your mobile phone, you can remotely control every home appliance with a Narrowband IoT technology chip in your home.
